I got this book a while back but I haven't seen it reviewed here yet. So first, here are some facts about the book: Price - About 25-30 pounds Pages - 126 Type - Hardback (purple cloth with blue and gold engravings or vice-versa) Magic style - Cards Written - 2002 Author - Aaron Fisher with additional writing by John Lovick This book contains some very advanced material. Included are half-passes, multiple shifts, flourishes, switches and so on. Included are 11 sleights (with many additional ideas and sub catagories), about 7 tricks built around those sleights and 12 other tricks. One thing nobody can take away from the book is that it looks stunning. It is easily one of the best looking books around and is similar from the outside to Drawing Room Deceptions. It's one of those books that look great on your bookshelf. Upon opening, you realise the quality of the book again, with glossy pages (similar to Dear Mister Fantasy's) and the neat, columnar set out of the writing. The blac and white photos are of great quality and give a great view of what is happening. There are 160 photos in all, that not only demonstrate what should be happening, but what shouldn't aswell. I'd say that this is a very good debut book from one of the best young card men around. The book has been slated for borrowing from others material, the so-called lame tricks, and the difficulty of the sleights. I disagree. Yes the sleights are difficult but don't buy a book labeled as advanced and then complain. It has been noted that a couple of the sleights resemble others (eg, the Outjog Herrmann Pass) but most of the material is very original. I find the tricks too be of a good standard, with a few donated by Gordon Bean. The contents are as follows: Technique:- 1.The Gravity Half Pass: The famous variation on the half-pass. It is difficult but is probably the best half pass out there -A simple sandwich: A card is lost in the deck and is found by the kings. This uses the gravity half pass, and is a decent trick 2.A Half Pass Variation: Self explanitary -Revolver: An effect where cards reverse. 3.The One-Handed Popover: Another famous flourish that requires practice. Very nice. -Hello Goodbye: an effect using the 'O-H P'. Simple but good -Pinch Me, I'm Falling: A variation on the previous trick 4.The Nowhere Pass: A nice control based on the bluff pass -Additional Handlings -Bluff Replacement Subtlety -Advanced Nowhere Pass 5.The Illusion Control: A good control where the card is seen to be going into the deck. Quite bad angles though and not totally original 6.Outjog Herrmann Pass: Another control that is a variation on the herrmann pass -The Academic Outjog Herrmann Pass: a more advanced version of the previous 7.The Undercover Switch: A good method for switching outjogged cards with many uses -Don't Fear the Reaper: The effect that describes the above -The Forced Undercover Switch: This is great and is currently the force I use. The deck is spread and the spectator touches a card. The spread is lifted to show the card they touched and you know the identity. Simple but effective. -Simpatico: A mate finding style trick using the Undercover Switch -Four by Four: A similar trick to the above. This time, the 4 cards of the same value are found -The Undercontrol Switch: Another Switch 8.A Useful Switch: A switch with help from the half pass 9.Decking the Top: A method to replace a palmed card 10.A Diminishing Lift: An version of the Dim' Lift. Uses a half pass(surprise) but is very visual and effective. Hard to get good angles though 11. The All Together Now Shift: A multiple shift with improvements on many others. Nice Magic:- 1.The Omen: A Story based trick with similarities to Jumping Gemini. Not the best in the book though 2.Golden Nugget: A trick where the queens vanish and reappear. A nice trick 3.2001, An Ace Odyssey: An Ace Assembly similar to 1002nd Aces by Alex Elmsley 4. Three Kings: One of the best effects in the book. A trick with great patter where the Kings change and appear etc 5. Revolution No.9: An original card effect where the deck and an outjogged card visually reverse. Stunning. 6.Helter Skelter: The chosen card changes back colour, before the rest of the deck does. Visual and nice. 7.Search and Destroy: In my opinion, this is the best effect here for many reasons. It is simple, visual, quick and hard hitting. Great (Penguin magic adapted this trick wrongly, it was called Fish sandwich) 8.A Star is Born: A find the card trick by Gordon Bean.Average effect 9.The Tax Man: a more complex and different approach to the Collectors. O.K, but there are drawbacks 10.The Standing Challenge: Gordon Bean's routine inspired by Vernon's The Challenge 11.The Long and Winding Trick: A routine with the aces and a surprise appearance by the kings. Good effect. 12.Here, There and Everywhere: Aaron's take on the travelers effect As you can see, there are many things found in this short book. Aaron's writing style is very clear and detailed. No details are left unnoticed. After every sleight or trick, Aaron gives his thoughts and commentry on the effect, listing patter, adaptations and so on. This book is a good one. It is of high quality, has many things inside and is overall a well written book. 9/10
